Your company representative will assist you and your family members in obtaining the necessary documents such as visa. However, the representative will not accompany any document that concerns a family member like spouses getting a “Certificate to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted”.
Permission for Period of Extending of Stay/ Visa Renewal
Visas are commonly issued for a three year length of stay. If you need to stay longer than this period of time you will need to apply for an extension prior to the expiration of your current visa. Applications are accepted from three months prior to the expiration date until the date of expiration, but it is a good idea to renew it at least one week prior to expiration. You need to bring the following documents:
Spouses and Employment
A foreign national who is granted a status of residence according to the activities he was engaged in Japan must receive permission to engage in an activity other than those permitted by the status of residence previously granted if he wishes to become engaged in activities "related to the management of business involving income or activities for which he receives remuneration, which are not included in those activities under his category of status of residence".
A foreign national with status of residence "Dependent" are able to obtain comprehensive permission to engage in certain unauthorized activities for 28 hours or shorter a week. Authorized activities and the employer's name will be indicated in "Certificate to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted."
